  • Fire Rope Dart

When selecting a rope dart, it is important to consider the proper rope length, durable head construction, heat and abrasion resistant rope, and minimal hardware.
Heads
Both the Monkey Fists and Dagger Dart heads are specifically designed to withstand repeated ground impacts. In addition, the only exposed metal on these heads is the quick link attachment point, reducing the risk of hot metal burns and of rough metal edges hitting you.

Monkey Fist heads are either 3.25" (Large ~ 4.6oz dry) or 3.75" (HUGE ~ 7.4oz dry) in diameter. The Large head burns for around 5 minutes, while the HUGE head burns around 7:30 minutes, both producing large, round flames.* This head tends to complement slower, more dance-focused rope dartists.

Dagger Dart heads are 7" long, 3" wide, and 2" deep, and weigh approximately 6.75 oz unfueled. This weight and shape makes them feel much like the traditional long metal dart heads. They produce a long flame that tends to burn for 3:45 - 5:00 minutes.* This head tends to complement faster, more martial rope dartists.

White Lotus heads are 6.5" wide folded throwing stars, with 4 or 5 stacked on top of each other (4 petal ~7oz dry, 5 petal ~8.5 oz dry). They burn for a shorter length of time than most heads (3:30 - 4:30) but have a substantially larger flames size due to the huge amount of surface area.* This head is for when you want to have a small sun circling your body.

* Burn times are estimated based on recorded burns using pure "white gas" / Coleman's Liquid Camp Fuel. Actual burn times may vary based on individual spinning style, length of fuel soak, and other factors.

Rope

Dragon Rope is made from a slick and durable fiber used extensively by NASA. In addition to being extremely smooth, it is highly abrasion resistant, lasting over four times as long as our original Dragon Rope. This comes in round and flat, which is mainly based on artist preference (we love flat). Would like to give Stefan Hohenberger an innovation nod, as the first artist we saw using flat rope as a leash material. It can withstand temperatures up to 300°F, which is less than the original Dragon Rope. For safety purposes, we recommend a minimum of 7 inches of separation between the head and this rope, which is provided by our 9 inch Technora Lead (available in our Rope Dart configuration options) instead of with long chains. Chain adds weight behind the head which makes the head wobble and are a greater burn risk due to hot metal.

Space Rope, trade name Zylon, is stated as the strongest rope by weight on the planet. It is approximately 3/16th diameter, with a rectangular braid, and has a break strength of about 6400 pounds (tested on this spool). Add to the list of MIND BLOWING attributes is a temp resistance of ~1050°F. Did we also mention it is super soft and feels incredible in your hand?
There are NO coatings or treatment on this rope (nothing wears off). That said you should keep this rope (and any synthetic rope) out of the sun as much as possible. Zylon also absorbs moisture easily, so try to keep it away from wet things and let it dry out after using it.

Hardware and our Technora Lead
Most severe equipment burns come from searing-hot exposed metal, not from the wicks. Because of Dragon Rope X's heat resistance, you need a small buffer separating the head's flames from the ropes. However, lengths of chain add wobble to your shots and a greater risk of burning yourself on hot metal. With only a quicklink, a ball bearing swivel, and a Technora Lead connecting your rope and head, your shots are straighter and more accurate, and you minimize the risk of touching or kicking hot chains.

  • Durable head designs
  • Clean, accurate shots
  • Monkey Fist burn time: 4:30-6 min
  • Dagger Dart burn time: 3:45-5 min
  • Minimal hardware (quicklink, swivel, and Technora Lead)
  • Smooth-textured, durable Dragon Rope X

Lotus Heads Because of the MASSIVE amount of fire they produce, Lotus heads have a shorter lifespan than other heads. Kerosene and Lamp Oil/ Paraffin have longer burn times, therefore the wick will absorb more heat and degrade faster than with other types of fuel. We do not recommend using these fuel types with Lotus heads. Learn to replace the bottom petal of a lotus. Purchase Replacement Petals Here

It is also really important to always keep this head moving. Keeping the head static for many than a few seconds, doing a lot of pendulums early in the burn, or laying the head down on the ground while it is burning can quickly damage the head and/or leash.
